Short-term costs and correlates of play in cheetahs
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the play behavior in cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus) indicated that play enhanced certain aspects of their predatory and hunting skills. Observations on the cheetah's social behavior during play showed different patterns in stalking and crouching movements. Animals which stalked their playmates and crouched more often were observed to stalk and crouch at prey more often. However, there were no evidences to support that stalking and crouching skills increased with age. Only skills in chasing and catching other cubs were observed to improve with age.

Behavioral costs and constraints of lactation in free-living cheetahs
Article Abstract:
Lactating wild cheetah mothers achieve higher food intake levels by increasing their hunting efficiency, prey size and frequency of the hunting as revealed by the study of behavioral costs and constraints of lactation on wild cheetahs. Lactating females foraged into farther territories, showed restricted ranging patterns and made more killings in the heat of the day.
