Size-dependent predation risk and partner quality in predator inspection of sticklebacks
Article Abstract:
The relation between size and quality of probable partners for predator inspection in three-spined sticklebacks was examined. Rainbow trouts were used as predators and were given a choice between a large and a small three-spined stickleback in a glass tube. The results showed that the trout chose to attack the large stickleback, indicating that the larger stickleback diverts the predator's attention from the smaller fish. Hence, a bigger fish has a higher associate quality than a smaller one for a sticklebackselecting a partner for a predator inspection visit.

Individual variability in state-dependent feeding behaviour in three-spined sticklebacks
Article Abstract:
The effects of previous prey ingestion on the feeding behavior of three-spined sticklebacks, Gasterosteus aculeatus, were examined in several trials where a prey, Asellus aquaticus was made available to three-spined sticklebacks. Results indicate that feeding behavior in this predatory fish exhibit individual variation and that the decision to prey on A. aquaticus is determined by the degree of stomach fullness and the size of the possible prey.

Foraging benefits of shoaling with familiars may be exploited by outsiders
Article Abstract:
The individual three-spined sticklebacks, Gasterosteus aculeatus, were examined to check if they distinguished between unfamiliar conspecific groups on the basis of intragroup familiarity. The results showed that unfamiliar focal individuals would be able to scrounge any foraging benefits of familiar shoals because of local enhancement.
