Soil invertebrate fauna enhances grassland succession and diversity
Article Abstract:
Plant biologists examine how soil fauna increases diversity and aids succession in grassland vegetation. The article concludes that soil fauna can suppress early successional dominant species, thus allowing secondary species to flourish, and that this knowledge will aid in plant conservation and restoration of grasslands.

Mobile plastid genes
Article Abstract:
Plant biologists have succeeded in placing chloroplast DNA into the nucleus of a plant gene. This has enormous implications for plant biotechnology, since the the changed genes can be transmitted to new generations from the maternal plant, but are not present in its pollen, where spread is difficult to control.

The plastid clpP1 protease gene is essential for plant development
Article Abstract:
Plastids of higher plants are semi-autonomous cellular organelles that have their own genome and transcription-translation machinery. A plastid gene essential for plant development is identified.
