There is extensive debate in Spain about the best way to allocate the 150 new jobs for junior scientists created in 1999 by the country's Higher Council of Scientific Research (CSIC) at more than 100 institutes. Each institute will be requested to prioritize its requirements for new appointments, but the CSIC will evaluate the needs of each institute, considering its scientific output and prospects for raising external research funds.

Spanish university sued for favouritism
Article Abstract:
Astrophysicist Antonio Ferriz Mas is suing the Spanish university University of Salamanca after alleging that his job application was rejected due to favouritism. The university awarded the post to another academic candidate, already working at the university, in spite of the candidate's inferior scientific qualifications to Ferriz Mas. Ferriz Mas is not a suitable candidate for the position in question, according to the university.
