Specification of astrocytes by bHLH protein SCL in a restricted region of the neural tube
Article Abstract:
A regionally restricted transcriptional program necessary for astrocyte and V2b interneuron development is demonstrated with striking parallels to the involvement of Stem cell leukaemia (Scl) in haematopoiesis. It is indicated that acquisition of embryonic glial subtype identity is regulated by genetic interactions between SCL and the transcription factor Olig2 in the ventral neural tube.

Gfi-1 restricts proliferation and preserves functional integrity of haematopietic stem cells
Article Abstract:
The zinc-finger repressor Gfi-1 is described, which is a cooperating oncogene in lymphoid cells unexpectedly restricts proliferation of HSCs. Gfi-1 is essential to restrict HSC proliferation and to preserve HSC functional intergrity.
