Steps towards reform
Article Abstract:
The process of building a knowledge-based society in today's Arab world depends on overcoming political obstacles and fundamentalist opposition to progress. A reform process is needed that will encourage freedom of expression and association and this would require the emergence of a vigorous civil society capable of leading the required transformation and a peaceful process of political struggle.

China's green accounting system on shaky ground
Article Abstract:
China's 'green' gross domestic product (GDP) accounting scheme is facing lots of problems at the pilot stage itself due to dispute between China's environmental watchdog and the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS). The NBS is questioning the effectiveness and feasibility of this scheme, which is used for measuring the economic cost that does not cost the environment.
