Stratification of ON and OFF ganglion cell dendrites depends on glutamate-mediated afferent activity in the developing retina
Article Abstract:
The dendritic stratification occurs when the bipolar cells form synapses in the inner plexiform layer (IPL), and inhibits the synthesis of the ON and OFF retinal pathways. The vertebrate visual system has distinct ON and OFF pathways for regulating changes in light receptivity. The influence of dendrites in controlling the pathways suggests that glutamate-mediated afferent activity affects the restructuring of retinal ganglion cell (RGC) dendrites during development.

Miniature eye movements enhance fine spatial detail
Article Abstract:
The study conducted to analyze the influence in humans of fixational eye movements on the discrimination of gratings masked by noise that has power spectrum similar to that of natural images reveal that fixational eye movements improve discrimination of high spatial frequency stimuli but not of low spatial frequency stimuli.
