Structural characteristics of old- and second-growth stands of longleaf pine (Pinus palustris) in the Gulf coastal region of the U.S.A
Article Abstract:
Restoration and conservation policies for second-growth stands of longleaf pine can be improved using data obtained from old-growth stands. By quantifying structural differences between the two stands, conservationists can determine special needs to encourage growth, such as density, stand patterns and locations. In some stands, removal of select trees was indicated to create open patches for recruiting juvenile trees.

Forest Stand Dynamics and Livestock Grazing in Historical Context
Article Abstract:
Intensity of grazing, duration of grazing, and timing of grazing are examined for their impact on the health of ponderosa pine forests, along with the impact of grazing animal species. Early grazing practices in the late 1800s and early 1900s were found to have caused the most damage; today's practices do not produce the same environmental impact.
