Crystal structure of the type-I interleukin-1 receptor complexed with interleukin-1 beta
Article Abstract:
Interleukin-1 is an essential mediator of inflammatory conditions which consists of two agonists namely IL-1a and IL-1beta and one antagonist, IL-1ra. The IL-1beta binds to s-IL1R which has a crystal structure that contains three immunoglobulin-like domains. The binding of IL-1a or IL-1beta to IL1R is an initial step in interleukin-1 signal transduction which can be a useful target for the development of new medicines when this interaction has been blocked.

A blueprint for life
Article Abstract:
The common bacterium Escherichia coli and its bacterial viruses are well used in science research because they have ideal pathogenic, and nutritional characteristics. However, the functions of up to 40% of an estimated 4,288 genes in E. coli have not yet been established. Scientists need to launch a cooperative international research strategy to ascertain the bacterium's genetic makeup.
