Surprisingly rapid spreading of newly formed intermediate waters across the North Atlantic Ocean
Article Abstract:
Temperature versus salinity (T/S) and chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) tracers were utilized to trace the rapid spread of cooling of Labrador Sea Water (LSW) resulting in an increased in density and deepening. Observations and data obtained enabled researchers to quantify and predict the rates of the spread as follows: the Western European basin was reached in about 4-5.5 years, the Iceland basin after 2-3.5 years, Newfoundland basin in about a year, and the Irminger Sea in about 6 months.

Influence of Southern Ocean waters on the cadmium-phosphate properties of the global ocean
Article Abstract:
The relationship between concentration of cadmium and concentration of phosphate ions in the world's oceans is fairly regular, but exhibits a discontinuity at a specific phosphate concentration. This discontinuity is due to the influx of Subantarctic water, which is poor in cadmium. This has important consequences for the use of cadmium-to-calcium ratios in determining past ocean circulation.
