Estes and Arnold in an article in "The American Naturalist" have proposed a theory that evolutionary changes on all timescales can be explained by a single model of adaptation based on 'adaptive landscapes, which removes the contradictions of stasis.

Evolutionary radiations and convergences in the structural organization of mammalian brains
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the interactions which exist between pairs of brain areas which are structurally related. The relationship between these areas favors a mosaic rather than concerted evolution in mammals.

Parasite adaptation to locally common host genotypes
Article Abstract:
It has been established that local adaptation results from parasite tracking of locally common host genotypes. A necessary condition of the Red Queen hypothesis is therefore fulfilled.
