The adaptive significance of colonial nesting in a coral-reef fish
Article Abstract:
Examination of the potential expenditure and merits of colonial nesting in the maomao, Abudefduf abdominalis, by calculating various environmental and social factors related with parental care and spawning in different group sizes showed that egg predation time after experimental male removals was positively associated with group size. It shows that decrease of egg predation is an elemental advantage of colonial nesting in these populations.

Protective association and breeding advantages of choughs nesting in lesser kestrel colonies
Article Abstract:
Birds may breed near predators to reduce the risk of other predators in general. This appears to be the case with choughs which may breed near lesser kestrels. The kestrels do not attack choughs, and they are more effective than choughs at attacking birds that might prey on choughs. Choughs breeding near kestrels have greater breeding success in terms of lower rates of nest loss than do choughs which do not breed near kestrels.
