The amazing atom laser
Article Abstract:
Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have developed a new type of laser which emits alkali atoms rather than the traditional light. The beam of the laser has been shown to be coherent, which passes the test of laser behavior. The new laser shares several advantages of laser light and is expected to improve the production of systems on the nanometer scale.

Tailor-made condensates
Article Abstract:
Wolfgang Ketterle and colleagues have shown that the strength of interactions between atoms in Bose-Einstein condensates, can be changed over a wide range, and even switched from attractive to repulsive. Tuning interactions provides new ways of controlling the motion of condensed gases when they are allowed to escape, to produce a laser-like atoms source.

It takes two electrons to tango
Article Abstract:
New research has given an insight into a two-electron dance when matter is exposed to an intense laser field. It has been confirmed that electron correlation is responsible for the anomalous production of electron pairs in an intense laser field.
