The charge of the light brigade
Article Abstract:
Astronomical observations show that gaseous emissions from several quasars possess speeds as high as one-tenth of the velocity of light. A new model suggests that the presence of a black hole as big as our solar system may be the cause. The black hole attracts gases released from the surrounding stars and in turn radiates energy. The model provides a new approach to understand the origin and dynamics of gases expelled from quasars.

Diagnostics of the power supply
Article Abstract:
An hydroxyl megamaser lies close to the centre of the interacting galaxy system Arp220. The megamaser is an intensive source of emissions in the infrared wavelengths. Observations from the Infrared Space Observatory suggest that a burst of massive-star formation is responsible for the far-infrared radiation that powers the megamaser.
