The combined effects of pathogens and predators on insect outbreaks
Article Abstract:
The economic damage caused by episodic outbreaks of forest-defoliating insects is researched. The insect outbreaks, which are explained by a model, includes both a generalist predator and a specialist pathogen that causes defoliator densities to fluctuate erratically between an equilibrium maintained by the predator and cycles driven by the pathogen.

Dynamics of disease resistance polymorphism at the Rpm1 locus of Arabidopsis
Article Abstract:
The arms-race model was tested in Arabidopsis thaliana via analysis of sequences flanking Rpm1. The arms-race hypothesis is rejected, supporting instead a trench warfare hypothesis, where advances and retreats of resistance-allele frequency maintain variations for disease resistance as a dynamic polymorphism.
