The effect of bovine interferon-alpha(sub I) 1 on pregnancy rate in heifers
Article Abstract:
The administration of bovine interferon-alpha(sub I) 1 decreasedfertility in heifers. This was contrary to findings in previous studies. Those that received interferon were found to have longer interestrous intervals. Administration of interferon in a stepwise manner with gradually increasing dosage did not reduce the incidence of hyperthermia, which is a known and potentially deleterious side effect of the drug. Hence, the use of interferon with current methods of administration to increase fertility in cows is not recommended.

Factors that affect ovarian follicular dynamics in cattle
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on cattle to determine the factors that affect ovarian follicular dynamics. Results show that two or three large follicles develop within the estrous cycle of cattle. Their growth is dependent on luteinizing hormone secretion and the presence of energy balance and lactation. Dietary fats and somatotropin also affect follicular growth and these growth dynamics are reflective of energy balance which influence reproductive performance of lactating cows.

Rapid communication: polymorphic (GT)n microsatellite in the bovine somatotropin receptor gene promoter
Article Abstract:
A polymorphic (GT)n microsatellite was found and identified within the bovine somatotropin receptor gene promoter. Five alleles of the microsatellite was found wherein the polymerase chain reaction fragments lengths of 94, 104, 106, 108 and 112 bp represented individuals with 10, 15, 16, 17 and 19 GT repeats. The DNA sequence did not contain 1.2 kb of interspersed repetitive element found within an analogous DNA sequence previously isolated from Bos taurus.
