The effect of neighbours and females on dawn and daytime singing behaviours by male chipping sparrows
Article Abstract:
The effect of social factors on the dawn and daytime singing behavior of the make chipping sparrows is determined. The results indicate that the presence or absence of neighboring male has a significant effect on the dawn chorus singing behavior and the presence or absence of the male's mate has a strong influence on the male's daytime singing behavior.

Temporal stability and change in microgeographical pattern of song variation in the rufous-collared sparrow
Article Abstract:
The pattern of song variation in the rufous-collared sparrow, Zonotrichia capensis, in the 1987 and 2000 breeding seasons in a 7-km(super 2) area covering open and closed habitats is studied. Fourteen quantitative song variables over a total of 390 individuals are measured and consistent differences between habitats in both years are found.

Song in chipping sparrows, Spizella passerina: structure and function
Article Abstract:
Songs in male chipping sparrows are related directly to mate attraction rather than territory defense. Song output declines after mating, and increases substantially after the loss of a mate. The intensity of the response of females to playbacks of songs of the males from the neighboring territories and strangers was the same.
