The fabulous unicorn: a magical, mystical natural history tour
Article Abstract:
The legendary unicorn originated in ancient China, where it is said to have inspired the creation of written language. The first written mention of a unicorn was in fourth century B.C. Greece by a man who heard of them in India. Throughout the Middle Ages it was believed the horn of the unicorn had magical powers. Pope Paul III paid 12,000 pieces of gold for what he believed was a real unicorn horn. Unicorns, like men, can be captured with the aid of a chaste young maiden.

Salt lakes and sea monkeys
Article Abstract:
Sea monkeys, or brine shrimp, belong to the crustacean order, and are one of the few species that can live in the harsh habitats of the salt lakes, where even bacteria cannot exist. Great Salt Lake is spread over 2000 square miles in northwest Utah. Water is so salty that oxygen is scarce. Algae produces oxygen by photosynthesis. However, the oxygen thus produced is released into the atmosphere. Though the number of species is low, the number of individuals is high.

Bellying up to the world
Article Abstract:
The world around has an incredible diversity and to understand the ecosystem children should be encouraged to explore, in the dirt and study the insects that live there. Getting close to the earth allows children to discover the foraging behavior of ants, the emerging moths from the leaf to lay eggs and the behavior of small fast flying mosquitoes. Children should be taught that insects have an important role to play in the ecosystem.
