The formation of filaments
Article Abstract:
A dynamic model has been proposed for the evolution of long chains of galaxies (filaments) based on tidal effects and spatial relations in the primordial field before the filaments' formation. The model involves a nested hierarchy of primordial density peaks that are defined by their initial density and tidal strain produced by the adjacent matter. An increase in clustering causes the peaks to collapse, and matter is then linked to form the filaments.

Inhibition of giant-planet formation by rapid gas depletion around young stars
Article Abstract:
A study of young stars indicates that the gases surrounding these stars deplete at a very fast rate, preventing the formation of bigger planets. This observation suggests that the planets already existing must have been formed at a rate quicker than that of gas depletion. CO photodissociation and H2 freeze-out onto cold grains are the two mechanisms by which gas depletion occurs in the young stars.

Galaxy formation in action
Article Abstract:
Braine and colleagues have provided evidence of interactions that continue to form new galaxies from recycled debris. They have shown that the brightest forms found in tidal debris, tidal dwarf galaxies (TDGs), of ten have similar properties to irregular dwarf galaxies. Some TDGs may synthesize new molecular clouds, but it is unlikely that irregular dwarf galaxies were once TDGs.
