The mismeasure of animal contests
Article Abstract:
A negative relation between Resource Holding Potential (RHP) difference and contest duration may be generated even when decisions of retreat are not based on estimated RHP difference. In order to discriminate between the effects of weaker rival RHP and true effects of RHP difference, statistical and experimental approaches are suggested.
