The muddle about mutations
Article Abstract:
Genetic scientists are surprised by recent genetics research which suggests that deleterious mutations may not be as damaging to the evolutionary process as once thought. Previously, widely accepted estimates of 1% mutation occurrence rates and their resulting impact on evolution were based on research data from the fruitfly Drosophila melanogaster. Scientists Jesus Fernandez and Carlos Lopez-Fanjul believe deleterious mutations occur at a greatly reduced rate and cause very little harm. Further research is required to obtain more information on deleterious mutations.

Explaining the geographic distributions of sexual and asexual populations
Article Abstract:
A mathematical model of habitat stretching from south to north in the Northern Hemisphere was constructed to examined the geographic distributions of sexual and asexual populations. The model supports the idea that a single basic process may account for geographic parthenogenesis, and that the process involves the movement of individuals from areas where they are well adapted to areas where they are poorly adapted.

Mutation and sex in a competitive world
Article Abstract:
A study of the interactions of deleterious mutations is presented with reference to their impact on fitness. The use of a mathematical model to examine competition and the influence of these mutations is described.
