Three-dimensional structure of a tubulin-motor-protein complex
Article Abstract:
Non-claret disjunctional (ncd), a minus-end directed motor in Drosophila, was studied by comparing a three-dimensional map with a tubulin control structure. The map was made of tubulin sheets laced with monomeric recombinant ncd motor domains. The binding of each motor domain to the crest of a single protofilament was revealed in the comparison as was the extensive contacts between the motor domains and alpha and beta tubulin monomers. Substantial conformational alterations in the monomers were observed due to binding of the motor domain.

Imaging individual green fluorescent proteins
Article Abstract:
The techniques of video time imaging of single molecules of fluorescent dyes bound to aqueous proteins, using fluorescence microscopy, are not fully exploted due to the difficulties in labelling of proteins. This can be overcome by fusing proteins to green fluorescent protein (GFP) of the jellyfish. The single S65T mutant GFP molecules were imaged in a study, using total internal reflection microscopy.

Structural basis of microtubule severing by the hereditary spastic paraplegia protein spastin
Article Abstract:
The X-ray crystal structure of the hereditary spastic paraplegia protein, spastin is discussed. The results show that spastin has the ability of dismantling microtubules by recognizing the specific features in the carboxy-terminal tail of tubulin.
