Tidal disruptions of the Magellanic Clouds by the Milky Way
Article Abstract:
An important consideration when determining the morphologies of the galaxies is their interaction over time. The interaction between the Milky Way and the neighbouring Large and Small Magellanic Clouds is one example. A new atomic-hydrogen survey of the southern skies reveal a new stream of gas moving around the Milky Way in the opposite direction to the trailing Magellan Stream, leading the motion of the clouds. It is probable that these leading and trailing streams have been torn from the Magellanic Clouds by gravitational tidal interaction.

Near-coeval formation of the Galactic bulge and halo inferred from globular cluster ages
Article Abstract:
Observation of the Milky Way galaxy using the Hubble Space Telescope reveals two metal-rich globular clusters that constitute a part of the Galactic bulge population. These globular bulge clusters, which seem to be coeval with halo clusters, were probably formed simultaneously with the formation of the halo. This points to a rapid chemical enrichment of the bulge gas during a relatively short time period.

The U/Th production ratio and the age of the Milky Way from meteorites and galactic halo stars
Article Abstract:
The U/Th abundance ratio in meteorites can be used, in conjunction with observation of low-metallicity stars in the halo of the Milky Way, to determine the U/Th production ratio. The U/Th ratio measured in these meteorites therefore presents a reliable estimate of the bulk Solar System ratio.
