Time travel on a string
Article Abstract:
J.R. Gott has suggested that a time machine using theoretical cosmic string matter is possible. Gott's hypothesis is the latest of many efforts by physicists to determine if the intriguing idea of time travel is realizable. All these proposals, including Gott's, aim to resolve whether timelike curves can be produced using only the types of matter known to exist, a question deriving from Einstein's general relativity theory. Gott's time machine is probably an impossibility since it would need so much string matter that an all-devouring black hole would result.

Power and particles: String theories dominate for good reason
Article Abstract:
High-energy physicists, for decades, have enjoyed the popularity of string theories that can do no wrong but there are major new uncertainties that have opened up alongside new opportunities. It is indicated that the physicists should turn this theory into a testable science instead of making predictions prematurely and reveling in them.

Quarks on a gravitational string
Article Abstract:
The theory of strong nuclear force called quantum chromodynamics evades analytical solution and the best available calculations depend on huge supercomputer simulations. An alternative theory, incorporating a dynamic force of gravity, can be used to produce reasonably accurate quantitative descriptions of light quark-antiquark pairings.
