US space agency escapes the worst of cuts
Article Abstract:
The NASA has been lucky to escape the big funding cuts that some legislators wanted. In a session of Congress held in Nov. 1995, NASA's centerpiece project on climate and environmental monitoring nicknamed Mission to Planet Earth was deprived of only $81 million instead of the original $1.34 billion cut that the Clinton administration asked for. This development was reportedly influenced by a recommendation against funding reduction by the National Research Council.
