Transient optical emission from the error box of the gamma-ray burst of 28 February 1997
Article Abstract:
The detection of a transient and fading optical emission from the error box of the gamma-ray burst which occurred on 1997 February 28 through the use of the Italian-Dutch satellite BeppoSAX was reported and accurately delineated. The gamma-ray burst (GRB) tagged as GRB970228 is found to be strongly associated with the optical and x-ray transients and this association has given astronomers adequate time to study the GRB on account that optical and x-ray afterglows have longer duration. Furthermore, the proximity of the optical transient and the galaxy hints the possible location of the transient in or near the galaxy.

Evidence for sub-millisecond structure in a gamma-ray burst
Article Abstract:
A gamma-ray burst (GRB) 910711 has an interval between bursts of only about 8 milliseconds, the shortest duration yet detected by the Burst and Transient Source Experiment (BATSE) aboard the Compton Observatory satellite. Moreover, BATSE's data indicate that GRB910711 is both narrower and is releasing more energy than a light-curve summed of all detectors would suggest. In addition, GRB910711 has a time profile with a marked submillisecond structure which any future GRB theory must account for.

Recurrent burst activity from the soft gamma-ray repeater SGR 1900+14
Article Abstract:
The detection of three short, very soft transient events from the old soft gamma-repeater SGR 1900+14 by the Burst and Transient Source Experiment is reported. Soft gamma-repeaters (SGRs) were considered to be distinct from about 1,000 sources of cosmic gamma-ray bursts because they exhibit recurrent activity. The SGR active phase lasts at least 13 years and, taken together with the supposed galactic origin of SGRs, indicate that SGRs are neutron stars.
