Transient sexual mimicry leads to fertilization
Article Abstract:
Field results in which a dramatic facultative switch in sexual phenotype by sneaker-male cuttlefish leads to immediate fertilization success, even in the presence of the consort male are described. These results are surprising, given the high rate at which females reject copulation attempts by males, the strong mate-guarding behavior of consort males, and the high level of sperm competition in this complex mating system.

Polarization vision helps detect transparent prey
Article Abstract:
Aquatic organisms use transparency to evade detection by visual predators, but new research shows that some predators, such as squid, can detect zooplankton with polarization vision. The study shows that squid can detect transparent objects under partially linearly polarized lighting. It is predicted that predation based upon polarized light may be used by other planktivores, including crustaceans.

Intensity of sexual selection along the anisogamy-isogamy continuum
Article Abstract:
Research into the evolution of giant sperm has uncovered a paradox within the foundations of sexual selection theory. Post-copulatory sexual selection on males can lead to decreased sperm numbers by favoring the production of larger sperm, however, a decline in sperm numbers is predicted to weaken selection on males and increase selection on females.
