Universities urged to do more for poor nations
Article Abstract:
Universities are being urged to guarantee access to drugs and medical products invented on campus for poor, developing nations. A group of students called Universities Allied for Essential Medicines (UAEM) has released a manifesto, the Philadelphia Consensus Statement that calls on universities to promote equal access to the fruits of their research, boost their work on diseases that disproportionately affect the poor and measure research success according to its impact on human welfare.
