Article Abstract:
An investigation of the rates of magma production and transport exploited the uranium-series nuclides, which included isotopes of thorium, radium, radon and lead. Various processes, such as mantle melting, may disturb secular equilibrium, but equilibrium is reestablished between any nuclide pair in the uranium series chain within around five-half-lives of the shorter-lived nuclide.

Lithium isotope evidence for subduction-enriched mantle in the source of mid-ocean-ridge basalts
Article Abstract:
A notable range in lithium isotope ratios in basalts from the East Pacific Rise, which correlate with traditional indices of mantle heterogeneity, is presented. It is found that the elevated lithium isotope ratios of the 'enriched' East Pacific Rise lavas imply that subducted ocean crust is not the agent of enrichment.
