Vegetation and soil feedbacks on the response of the African monsoon to orbital forcing in the early to middle Holocene
Article Abstract:
Climate models representing four climates, control (modern climate), R (changes in radiation at 6,000 years ago), RV (changes in radiation and vegetation) and RVS (changes in radiation, vegetation and soil) were used to study the environmental response of the African monsoon to orbital forcing. The findings indicated that changes in vegetation and soil may be responsible for the increased climate response to orbital forcing that is currently being observed in the Sahel and Sahara regions.

Diversity of temperate plants in east Asia
Article Abstract:
Contrasting views on the reasons for the very wide species diversity of vascular plant genera in east Asian temperate forests in comparison with related taxa in North America are presented. One hypothesis is that the more complex landforms and climates of eastern Asia created more opportunities for allopatric formation of new species than in eastern North America.

Large-scale processes and the Asian bias in species diversity of temperate plants
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the geographical distribution of vascular plant genera in eastern North America and eastern Asia. The greater richness of biodiversity in eastern Asia is discussed.
