Vision and attention: the role of training
Article Abstract:
Attentional blink experiments show a marked different between the performance of novice and expert observers. Novices were less able to perform a task of popout detection. Observers tend to perform less well with tasks that are unexpected and stimuli that are not familiar. Experience or training can boost awareness of stimuli while leaving attentional demands of certain associated tasks unchanged. Trained observers can be used for experiments geared to understanding links between neural substrate and perception.

Tracking an object through feature space

Intimate attention
Article Abstract:
Research into how our attention is directed towards a visual object is discussed. A study of how the brain divides a scene into background and figure is presented, with implications for how the visual cortex works.
