Houseboat
Article Abstract:
The urban professionals couple who owned a houseboat on Union Lake in Seattle, WA, hired Bumgardner Assoc. to renovate and enlarge the property into a comfortable, alluring living facility. The floating foundation was significantly improved to support additional structures. The architectural team connected together the original, peaked-roof clapboard house facing the dock and other houseboats, and a modern extension on the waterfront side. The interior was created as an airy loft space.

Architects' offices
Article Abstract:
Ross Barney + Jankowski Architects decided to use the landmark Inland Steel Building of Chicago, IL, as the site for its new offices. It selected the 7,000-sq.-ft. space on the tower's 16th floor as its headquarters and used ordinary materials, such as drywall, vinyl tile and cork, to suffuse its teamwork-oriented offices with style without spending too much. Highlights of the design include the custom plywood conference room table, the plywood reception desk and the open studio.
