Debut, swan song, and Swan Lake
Article Abstract:
Peter Wright's production of 'Giselle' marked the debut of ballerina Darcey Bussell and the final performance of Lesley Collier with the Royal Ballet at Covent Garden. The two performers have contrasting styles with Collier's reflecting romanticism and Collier's expressing a blend of classical ideals and contemporary amplitude. The 'Swan Lake' production by Matthew Bourne has won widespread public acclaim for its alternative interpretation of the classical ballet. Bourne uses a cast of male swans and mocks British culture in his ballet.
