Robert Helpmann, dancer and choreographer
Article Abstract:
Robert Helpmann's choreography transcended conventional assumptions of dance movement in the 1940s. His work incorporated acrobatic physicality before it became commonplace, and employed strong, violent movements to focus the audience's attention. His exploration of artistic expression drew both intensely positive and negative reviews from dance critics.
