Serving the spirits across two seas: Vodou culture in New York and Haiti
Article Abstract:
The Voodoo religion varies from Haiti to New York, where the higher costs of America force practitioners to economize in their ceremonies. In Haiti, Voodoo is a full-fledged religion, with God ruling over spirit loas who interact in human affairs and have different personalities. Ceremonies have specific purposes and follow specific forms, with dances culminating in spirit possession.
