Technology has the potential to destroy automobile racing, as engineers and computers would ultimately create machines that the driver would become only as witless passenger. Race cars could overwhelm human skill with traction control, computer-operated suspensions, automatic gearboxes, ground effects, and space-age aerodynamics.
