Hill's wins at the Canadian Grand Prix and Montreal's Circuit Gilles Villeneuve helped give him 53 points in the world championship at the midpoint of the Formula 1 racing season. Schumacher is in third place with only 26 points, but Hill still considers him a threat.

Jacques Villeneuve reduced Michael Schumacher's lead to 4 points when he won the 1997 British Grand Prix for the Williams racing team. However, Schumacher looms as the Grand Prix champion when he finished second to Gerhard Berger at the German Grand Prix.

Ayrton Senna won a much-shortened 1991 Australian Grand Prix, with Nigel Mansell finishing in second place. Torrential rain forced the results to be taken after only 14 of the scheduled 81 laps. Details of the race are discussed.
