Scope for improvement: financial management in the WA public sector
Article Abstract:
A survey of state and regional financial managers in Western Australia identified areas for improvement in accounting techniques. The survey covered budget processes, asset management, cash flow management, costing and allocations, reporting, and project evaluation. Fifty-seven percent of the respondents did not employ formal project evaluation methods. The survey also showed some variation in overhead allocation. Another area which could be updated is the use of alternative service delivery methods.

Recovering debts: changing the picture
Article Abstract:
Tighter profit margins are forcing Australian businesses to pay closer attention to debt management. A bad debt can inhibit the cash flow of a company preventing reinvestment of cash in business operations. Better client relationships can result from good debt management.
