A 1,3-beta-glucanosyltransferase isolated from the cell wall of Aspergillus fumigatus is a homologue of the yeast Bg12p
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the purification of the 1,3-beta-glucanosyltransferase homologue of the yeast Bg12p which was isolated in the cell wall of Aspergillus fumigatus. It was observed through biochemical and molecular characterization that the transferase was homologous to the Saccharomyces cerevisiae an Candida albicans transferase Bg12p. The deglycosylation experiments and the N-terminal amino acid sequences indicated that the 35 kDa and the 37 kDa bands were two species belonging to the same protein but with different glycosylation levels.

Fungal growth on buckminsterfullerene
Article Abstract:
The biological properties of Buckminsterfullerene were investigated. The carbon derivative was exposed to ultrapure water under normal temperature which allowed the examination of fungal growth. Species of Penicillium growth was observed in the absence of nutrients. Fungi on buckyballs suggest the possibility that life may have travelled to Earth on the substance and may have served as substrate of growth for extra-terrestrial micro-organisms.
