A Bacillus cereus member of the SNF2 family
Article Abstract:
DNA sequence analysis was done on the cloned 1.9 kb Bacillus cereus gene encoding a protein of 635 amino acids (aa) that is homologous to the SNF2 family of putative helicases which are involved in transcriptional control, DNA repair or maintenance of chromosome stability. There were two open-reading frames identified, orf-1 composed of 981 nucleotides (nt) and the 3207-nt Bcsnf. The latter predicted a protein of 1064 aa where the conserved SNF2 domain was found at the carboxy terminus while its 633 amino-terminal aa exhibited no homology with any protein in the databases.

Genome organization is not conserved between Bacillus cereus and Bacillus subtilis
Article Abstract:
Eighty kb of genome sequence sampled from various regions of the Bacillus cereus ATCC 10987 chromosome was investigated. Examination of the sequence and comparison of the localization of the putative genes with that of B. subtilis orthologues revealed that gene organization is not conserved between B. cereus and B. subtilis, several putative genes are more closely related to genes from other bacteria and archaea than to B. subtilis, and B. cereus has a 155 bp repetitive sequence that is not found in B. subtilis.

Insertional inactivation of hbIC encoding the L(sub)2 component of Bacillus cereus ATCC 14579 haemolysin BL strongly reduces enterotoxigenic activity, but not the haemolytic activity against human erythrocytes
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to investigate the effect of inactivation on the toxicity of haemolysin BL in a mutant of Bacillus cereus. Results show that inactivation of the first gene of the hbl operon reduces the enterotoxigeneic and haemolytic activity against sheep erythrocytes.
