A bioluminescence assay using Nitrosomonas europaea for rapid and sensitive detection of nitrification inhibitors
Article Abstract:
The application of the bacterial luciferase gene for rapid and sensitive detection of nitrification inhibitors that inhibit ammonia-oxidizing bacteria was described. Results suggested that the inhibition of bioluminescence was caused by the immediate decrease of reducing power in the cell due to the inactivation of ammonia monooxygenase, as well as by the destruction of other cellular metabolic pathways. It was concluded that the assay system using luminous Nitrosomonas can be applied as a rapid and sensitive detection test for nitrification inhibitors.

Green fluorescent protein as a reporter to monitor gene expression and food colonization by Aspergillus flavus
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the feasibility of using the green fluorescent protein (GFP) of Aequorea victoria as a tag to follow the growth of Aspergillus flavus. One of the advantages of using GFP as an in vivo reporter for monitoring dynamic processes in cells or organisms is its ability to be measured directly without additional substrates, cofactors or proteins. Results indicate that the use of modified GFP in strains of A. flavus could facilitate the detection of the fungus in substrates.

Gene cloning and functional characterization by heterologous expression of the fructosyltransferase of Aspergillus sydowi IAM 2544
Article Abstract:
The fructosyltransferase gene obtained from Aspergillus sydowi encodes a protein different from all other database fructosyltransferase genes, and was found to be functionally expressed in yeast, potato plants, and Escherichia coli. Implications for human nutrition, particularly for fructan polysaccharides, are also discussed.
