Use of unlinked genetic markers to detect population stratification in association studies
Article Abstract:
Use of unlinked genetic markers for detection of population stratification in association studies has been evaluated. Where there is population stratification, it can be found by using unlinked marker loci. The case-control study design where unrelated control individuals are used is a valid approach for association mapping, assuming that marker loci unlinked to the candidate locus are included in the study for testing for stratification. Guidleines for the number of unlinked marker loci to use are given.

Quantitative-trait locus for specific language and reading deficits on chromosome 6p
Article Abstract:
For developmental reading disability (RD), or dyslexia, subjects, performance in several skills has been subjected individually to quantitative-trait locus (QTL) analysis. A new sample of 126 sib pairs was studied using a multipoint mapping method and eight informative DNA markers on chromosome 6. Results show significant linkage over at least 5 cM for deficits in phonological and orthographic skills.
