A computer-simulated restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis of bacterial small-subunit rRNA genes: efficacy of selected tetrameric restriction enzymes for studies of microbial diversity in nature
Article Abstract:
Computer-simulated restriction fragment length polymorphism analyses of 100 bacterial small-subunit rRNA amino acid sequences shows that the HhaI, RsaI and BstUI tetrameric restriction enzymes (TREs) are the most effective for the classification of operational taxonomic units (OTU). These TREs have a high number of restriction sites for each bacterial taxon and frequency of restriction fragment band size class. More than three TREs have an OTU detection rate of 99%. The accuracy of the results depends on the properties of the TREs only if less than three TREs are used.

Light dependence of [(super 3)H] leucine incorporation in the oligotrophic North Pacific Ocean
Article Abstract:
The effect of irritation on bacterial integration of [(super 3)H] leucine was analyzed at station ALOHA in the oligotrophic North Pacific Ocean and six experiments were undertaken on three ships that were directed to ALOHA station. The outcome of these experiments indicated that sunlight has a straight effect on the growth of bacteria in this open ocean ecosystem.

Limitation of bacterial growth by dissolved organic matter and iron in the Southern Ocean
Article Abstract:
Results demonstrate that bacterial growth is primarily influenced by the dissolved organic matter. However, additions of iron plus glucose lead to substantial increases in growth and biomass accumulation indicating that iron availability probably affects bacterial growth in the Southern Ocenan regions.
