Comparison of Euryarchea strains in the guts and food-soil of the soil-feeding termite Cubitermes fungifaber across different soil types
Article Abstract:
The termites are a significant part of the tropical soil communities and they have a substantial effect on the structure and the nutritional contents of the soil. Moreover it is required to arrange the 16S rRNA gene serially and evaluate the terminal-restriction fragment length polymorphism (T-RFLP) to check the methanogenic archea in the guts along with the food-soil of Cubitermes fungifaber, which is a soil feeding termite and mostly found in the tropical areas.

Phylogeny of not-yet-cultured spirochetes from termite guts
Article Abstract:
The spirochetes present in the hindguts of the African higher termites are members of the Treponema branch of spirochetes. The rDNA gene amplification technique PCR, followed by cloning and sequencing of the 16S rRNA DNA, shows that the spirochetes represent two new species. The spirochetes possess structural characteristics of spirochetes such as a protoplasmic cylinder, periplasmic flagella and an outer sheath.

Distribution and genetic variation of Reticulitermes (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae) in Portugal
Article Abstract:
A study attempts to resolve the species and population diversity of Reticulitermes in Portugal using a molecular marker proven to discriminate variation accurately and consistently within this genus. An association between the genetic and the geographical distances of sampled is revealed, leading to the conclusion that discrete termite populations have differentiated in situ.
