A method of screening for genes of major effect
Article Abstract:
A new approach to animal population screening based on an index of calculated genotype status probabilities at an unknown locus is presented. This technique, called the continuous method, uses information on phenotypes of continuous measures for making a continuous trait-plus identification of sire and dam. It is applied more easily than other methods on data covering several generations, even with missing phenotypes and pedigree information. It involves an iterative-two step procedure in which genotype probabilities are first estimated, followed by a regression of phenotypes on genotype probabilites to produce an estimate of genotypic effects.

Genetic variation and random drift in autotetraploid populations
Article Abstract:
The occurrence of heterozygosity may be a factor in the success of autoploid populations. However, no methods have been proposed for the comparison of polyploid and diploid populations. The equilibrium homozygosity was calculated for randomly mating autotetraploid populations under conditions of random drift and mutation. The resulting f statistic was used to compare genetic variation as a measure of homozygosity.
