A novel CNS gene required for neuronal migration and involved in x-linked subcortical laminar heterotopia and lissencephaly syndrome
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to investigate the cloning of a central nervous system gene that was highly characterized in developing brain and neuronal cells that encoded for Doublecortin, a 40 kDa predicted protein. Total RNA was determined from lymphoblastoid cell lines using the guanidium thiocyanate method. Results indicated that presence of a transcript at very high fetal brain level. They also suggested the use of at least four genes to function in the transport of neurons during cortical histogenesis.

Neuronal patterning by BMPs: a requirement for GDF7 in the generation of a discrete class of commissural interneurons in the mouse spinal cord
Article Abstract:
BMP signaling may be a significant part of assigning neuronal identity within the mammalian central nervous system. GDF7, a BMP family member, was examined for its ability to generate neuronal cell types in the dorsal spinal cord. GDF7 was found to promote differentiation in D1A and D1B neuron classes, so this clearly provides an inductive signal.
