A signal transduction system that responds to extracellular iron
Article Abstract:
A signal transduction system (PmrA/PmrB) that responds to extracytoplasmic ferric iron is discussed. Iron can be toxic in excess, but is an essential element for organisms in general. The pathway appears to mediate the avoidance of toxicity of iron. A pmrA mutant was found to be hypersensitive to iron, but had wild-type resistance to various oxidants.

A mechanism for coupling exit from mitosis to partitioning of the nucleus
Article Abstract:
A coupling mechanism for exit from mitosis and partitioning of the nucleus. Exit from mitosis must not occur before partitioning of chromosomes between daughter cells. It has been found that the GTP biding protein Tem1, a regulator of mitotic exit, is present on the spindle pole body that migrates into the bud during S phase and mitosis.

The fate of dsRNA in the nucleus: a p54(sup)nrb -containing complex mediates the nuclear retention of promiscuously A-to-I edited RNAs
Article Abstract:
Research reveals that the nuclear protein p54(sup)nrb binds inosine-containing RNAs very specifically. Data indicate that the protein is a complex consisting of the slicing factor PSF and the nuclear matrix structural protein matrin 3, which aids in its nuclear retention.
