A simple methodological approach for counting and identifying culturable viruses adsorbed to cellulose nitrate membrane filters
Article Abstract:
A technique for counting viruses in low-titer viral suspensions is reported. It uses Buffalo green monkey cells growing on a cellulose nitrate membrane to which the viruses are attached.

New method for evaluation of virucidal activity of antiseptics and disinfectants
Article Abstract:
Researchers found the VIRADEN method to be as accurate as other methods for measuring virus activity in the presence of disinfectants and antiseptics. The VIRADEN method counts viruses adsorbed to cellulose nitrate filters. It was used to assess poliovirus activity in the presence of iodine, chlorine, glutaraldehyde, and chlorhexidine digluconate.

Survival of bacterial indicator species and bacteriophages after thermal treatment of sludge and sewage
Article Abstract:
Results reveal that bacteriophages are markedly more resistant to inactivation by heat treatment than bacterial indicator species as shown in sludge and sewage sources heated to 80 and 60 C, respectively. Further, somatic coliphages and phages are more resistant than F-specific RNA phages. Both sludge and sewage show similar inactivation patterns.
