A transgenic neuroanatomical marker identifies cranial neural crest deficiencies associated with the Pax3 mutant Splotch
Article Abstract:
A study conducted on the transgenic mouse line 17 which contain a beta-galactosidase marker gene shows that the Pax3 gene is important for the formation of cranial ganglia and nerves. Splotch (Sp) mutants show abnormalities in the brain, neural tube and muscles due to a mutation in the Pax3 gene. Homozygous Sp mutant embryos show lumbosacral spina bifida and exencephaly. The abnormalities seen in the nervous system of the Sp(super d) allele crossed with line 17 mice are less severe than abnormalities in homozygous Sp mice, but are of the same variety.

The establishment of murine hox-1 expression domains during patterning of the limb
Article Abstract:
Researchers determined and mapped homeobox consisting of genes of the 5' part of the murine Hox-1 cluster of chromosomal walking by studying the expression of Hox-1.8, 1.9 and 1.10, and a paralog of the Hox-4 cluster (Hox-4.5) during phases when the developing limb pattern was being outlined. The expression domains were formed between phases E 9.5 and E 12.5, and the formation of patterns was correlated to the growth of the limb.

Segment-specific expression of the neuronatin gene during early hindbrain development
Article Abstract:
Analysis of three spliced mouse neuronatin cDNA sequences shows that neuronatin helps in the regulation of segment identity in the hindbrain and the development of adenohypophysis and nervous system. Neuronatin is expressed during the early growth of hindbrain and in the surface of foregut pocket. In late embryogenesis the gene is expressed in major sections of central and peripheral nervous systems.
