Adaptation of Pseudomonas sp. strain 7-6 to quaternary ammonium compounds and their degradation via dual pathways
Article Abstract:
Pseudomonas sp. strain 7-6, isolated from active sludge, has utilized n-dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride (DTAC), a quaternary ammonium surfactant, as a sole carbon, nitrogen and energy source. Two pathways, pathway 1 and pathway 2, were proposed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis for DTAC metabolism and were found that pathway 1 was the main pathway for the degradation of DTAC.
